This project is executed using the punch needle technique to create expressive volume and tactile contrast. The composition is divided into two parts representing our world and the looking-glass world to convey the difference between reality and fantasy.
Our world is presented as flat and dull as a symbol of the mundane and a lack of depth. The looking-glass world literally blooms with variegated colors and complex textures to demonstrate boundless imagination. The work is inspired by Lewis Carroll’s novel “Through the Looking-Glass” and the mirror room in the Belvedere in Vienna to combine literary imagery with real architectural aesthetics.
