Description: This rhizome is based on unique factory stamp of Baron Eduard (Edward) Bergenheim from the early 20th century. The prototype is the reverse side of an authentic Mettlach tile discovered in one of Kyiv’s historical buildings.
This stamp serves as a “passport” of the artifact, preserved through the centuries. The outer circle clearly reads “Bergenheim Kharkiv,” while the center is occupied by the abbreviation “TBEB” — the Partnership of Baron Eduard Bergenheim (Towarzystwo Barona Eduarda Bergenheima). This industrial marking, hidden for decades beneath layers of mortar, now becomes the primary visual focus. The rigid typography and hermetic seal of the stamp transform into an architectural foundation inhabited by nature.
Rhizome breathes new biological life into this symbol once frozen in ceramic. Using a method of guided growth, wheat roots fill the historical form, creating a delicate yet living lace. It is a dialogue between the architectural code of the old city and the relentless energy of nature.
