After many experiments, I’ve discovered how to grow roots so that they form certain shapes. With that, I was aiming to find something for a story that would reflect Ukraine’s history and traditions.
One day, I’ve found out about Sergei Mironov, a famous Kievan guide, historian and archaeologist, and his research into the history of Ukraine’s capital. In particular, he was collecting ancient building tiles, often discovered in abandoned historical buildings in Kyiv.

I was looking for new moulds to grow roots in, so as soon as I’ve learned of those artifacts, I’ve asked Sergiy to lend those to me with the purpose of using those in art projects. He kindly agreed and, after seeing the results, he suggested I should create a dedicated art project using this technique. With it, he wanted so that everyone could take a piece of Kyiv with them, so that everyone would remember Ukrainian history, the beauty that’s slowly disappearing every single day: the land, the grain, the tiles, and the people who came together to create it.

Sadly, destiny didn’t let us present this project together.
Serhii Mironov left this world on November 16, 2022 as he was fighting in Bakhmut. Hundreds of talented and irreplaceable people are dying in the war, and unfortunately, he was no exception. Mironov has poured his heart and soul into what he did, and every such death leaves even more scars in our souls, making sure we never forget this conflict.

And no matter how hard it is for me to bear the death of my friend, I have to make his dream come to life, even through tears. To finish what we’ve started without him being around. To commemorate the life and achievements of Serhii Mironov, a unique man whose memory will live in our hearts for a long time. To commemorate the lives of everyone who sacrificed themselves for our safety.
