Description: This rhizome is based on a unique pattern of the Ukrainian-Polish Dziewulski and Lange factory, dating back to the early 20th century. The prototype is an authentic Mettlach tile discovered in one of Kyiv’s historical buildings.
The design of this piece is striking in its mathematical harmony: a complex labyrinth of concentric circles and S-shaped waves creates an effect of perpetual motion. This ornament, typical of late Art Nouveau, symbolizes cyclicity and infinity. The deep grooves and stepped reliefs of the pattern once channeled the flow of water and the footsteps of people; today, they have become a riverbed for living roots.
Rhizome breathes new biological life into this symbol once frozen in ceramic. Using a method of guided growth, wheat roots fill the historical form, creating a delicate yet living lace. It is a dialogue between the architectural code of the old city and the relentless energy of nature.
