Description: This rhizome is based on a unique pattern of the Ukrainian-Polish Dziewulski and Lange factory, dating back to the early 20th century. The prototype is an authentic Mettlach tile discovered in one of Kyiv’s historical buildings.
The rigid geometry of the design—a rhythmic interplay of rhombuses and stepped “ladders”—was originally engineered for the industrial and public interiors of imperial Kyiv. This pattern embodies the pragmatism and structural strength of the era of progress: every line is precisely calculated, and every element is designed to evoke a sense of infinite, unwavering order.
Rhizome breathes new biological life into this symbol once frozen in ceramic. Using a method of guided growth, wheat roots fill the historical form, creating a delicate yet living lace. It is a dialogue between the architectural code of the old city and the relentless energy of nature.
