Description: This rhizome is based on a unique pattern of the Kyiv Secession (Art Nouveau) from the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. The prototype is an authentic ceramic tile discovered in one of Kyiv’s historical buildings. At the heart of the composition is a stylized “Tree of Life” — a lush, blooming vessel resembling a chestnut blossom or a palmette, surrounded by viburnum berries. The chestnut, which later became the official symbol of Kyiv, was a frequent motif in the kilns and facades of the city during that era.
Rhizome breathes new biological life into this symbol once frozen in ceramic. Using a method of guided growth, wheat roots fill the historical form, creating a delicate yet living lace. It is a dialogue between the architectural code of the old city and the relentless energy of nature.
